Which browsers are supported?
Databases require an Internet-accessible PC or Macintosh computer. For Macintosh users, we recommend using Safari 1.3 or higher;
for PC users, we recommend Internet Explorer 6.0 or higher, or Firefox 1.5 or higher.
Can I access database content through a federated search partner?
We are partnered with the most popular federated searching companies: Discovery, Webfeat, Serial Solutions, Follett, MUSE, Auto-Graphics and Innovative Interfaces.
Do the databases use cookies?
Cookies must be enabled in order to access our databases.
Are usage statistics available?
Usage statistics reports are accessible online and are in real time. Usage statistics can be exported into a Microsoft Excel!" spreadsheet.
Usage statistics will record visits, session searches and requests. Facts On File Reference Databases will support statistics reporting in ICOLC or COUNTER format.
Are there any plug-ins required?
To view a PDF, while using a Facts On File Reference Database, we recommend using Adobe Reader 6.0 or higher.
To view videos, you must have Windows Media Player Version 9 or higher; for optimal viewing we recommend downloading the most recent version.
There are no plug-ins required to access Facts On File News Service Databases. However if you wish to use Browsealoud: a tool that speaks
website content aloud, you will need to download a plug-in.
What are some of the key features of the databases?
Folders: this feature is available in the Facts On File Reference Databases only. It provides users with the ability to save content to a folder. These items will be
archived and made available during future database sessions. If users are not signed in, they can still save items to a folder, but the folder will be emptied automatically
when the browser window is closed.
Videos and animation: many of our Facts On File Reference Databases now contain video clips and animations.
Flash tutorials: all of our Facts On File Reference Databases have overview tutorials showcasing some of the key features of each product.
